2016 novara randonee
Good review. Of course, you’ll need to stock up on the extra parts necessary for touring, such as an extra chain and spokes. Here's my Kona fully loaded - should look similar to this in the end: http://i.imgur.com/gFEJKS1.jpg. Novara Randonee Bike - 2016. So I just picked this guy up from REI with my 20% off member discount. The steele frame and longer wheelbase make for a nice ride. Novara Randonee Bike - 2016 | REI Co-op With a sleek look, our iconic pavement-touring Randonee® bike features a smooth-riding chromoly frame and accessory compatibility that makes it a true classic. I’d definitely pick up some more durable tape. The bicycle comes with a rack. The paint is very easily scratched and the color choice is an ugly brown (2008 model). Fortunately, REI has an amazing return policy, so I figure I'll put some miles on it in the coming weeks and if it isn't a figure improvement I can always take it back. If I could only have one, it would be the Randonee. Shop similar products. Heavy yes, and that's ok. Its a very solid bike. If I could only have one, it would be the Randonee. Semper Fidelis. I have an older 1998? Riding the bicycle was also extremely helpful for me in deciding whether or not the bicycle was suitable. Enjoy! I'd much prefer something more subtle. I like my '14 Randonee a lot, it's a really amazing bike. I have the 2013 Randonee which I mostly use for putzing around town, driving to the pool, exercising, etc. Thanks for review, one of the few I could find on the randonee. Because it’s steel, the bicycle rides extremely smoothly – you definitely won’t feel all the bumps in the asphalt. The Randonee is designed for serious tours, though could also be used as a commuter bicycle if you’re prepared to haul the Randonee’s weight – it’s steel, so it’s on the heavy side (around 28 pounds). The only major problem occurred when I crashed and broke the left Tiagra STI shifter (maybe I should not have been looking at that car for sale). I ride 45-46 miles RT 5 days a week and it does the job well. I’ve swapped out many parts since then, and I’m lovin it! The Randonee is a well thought out Touring bike that would also serve well for commuting. The original tires lasted 4K-5K miles without a flat. It was very uncomfortable, and if I could change anything about the Randonee, it would be not having to spend an extra $40 (that’s after the credit) to upgrade to a decent saddle. Overall I have been quite pleased with my Randonee. I found the stem to be too long for a touring bike and the frame size (120mm on a 54 cm frame) and I ride more stretched out and lower than most tourists. I did watch one of my rear brake pads crumble as I repaired a flat, but those brakes had not been replaced in 3000 miles of rough terrain (including the Rockies and the San Bernardinos). I do not use the bike for touring, I bought my Randonee to primarily use for commuting, weekend rides, and occassionally for towing my kid's bike trailer. The worst thing about the bicycle, though, is definitely the stock saddle. Not a bad bike for loaded touring and better, the ride is very smooth as a direct result of the time-tested Reynolds 520 tubing. randonee that I used to do Portland to SF 12 summers ago, and commute with daily. The Novara Randonee is a heavy duty steel touring rig.The Novara Randonee is a touring bike through and through – a sturdy steel frame with relaxed geometry to carry heavy loads, a durable 36 spoke wheelset, and plenty of braze-ons for water bottles, racks, and fenders. Wish brakes had more grab. Novara Randonee is such an outstanding bike. I like the down-played branding, and the barcons are a nice touch. A great bike. Reynolds 520 frame. I’m between 5’11 and 6 foot and it’s a perfect fit Seattle, WA Map is approximate to keep the seller's location private The cables (shifting cables, not brake cables) loosened up pretty quickly within the first two weeks of riding the Randonee high-mileage (as is expected of new bicycles), but they required adjustment every two days throughout those two weeks. Basic, no nonsence components, wide gear range, excellent tires and a very sturdy rack (actually a bit overbuilt). Press J to jump to the feed. The stem is way too long for a touring bike and the frame size (120mm on a 54 cm frame, and I ride more stretched out and lower than most tourists. The paint is very easily scratched and the color choice is an ugly brown (2008 model). yup, they do that. The brake components are Tektro brand. Bike snobs my thumb their nose at it. I suspect that ‘less expensive’ might have been REI’s motivation for the change. Happy cycling! I think it's an alright look, but it's kind of loud and has a bunch of cheesy seat tube stickers that say stuff like "old school steel construction". Comfortable ride. Even though I own 4 bikes I choose to commute with my circa 80’s Novara Radonee Touring bike in NYC for my 46 mile RT commute. My Randonee has been with me for several thousand miles of touring now, and I would not have chosen any other bicycle to have carried me and my belongings so far. The tires are size 700c Vittoria Randonneurs, which, as will be discussed later, are extremely durable. Added Jand front rack and Serfa Saddle. I find it easy to maintain all the major parts. With a sleek look, our iconic pavement-touring Randonee® bike features a smooth-riding chromoly frame and accessory compatibility that makes it a true classic. Toe overlap and lower water bottle cage mount. More stable that the Strada. Bullet proof, kevlar-type, rubber and just as reliable as my Gatorskins on my Basso Firo de lotto Campagnolo-equipped, SLX tubed time machine. Doesn't come with a kickstand. It was convenient, and I got a $10 credit toward the new saddle by giving them the stock saddle. There are 30 gears, spanning, obviously, enough of a range that there are comfortable settings for both climbing and descending even mountains. Bar-ends are simpler, maybe more reliable and less expensive than brifters. No self-supported extended tours, but I just rode it this past weekend for my first double-century (OK, back-to-back centuries), the Seattle to Portland Classic. I highly recommend the Randonee based on my experience. The staff at R.E.I. This bicycle is made to go long distances, and I certainly plan on covering much, much more distance with my Randonee. The tires on the Randonee are extremely reliable. 4) shifters – after 10+ years the STIs died. 6) 5 or 6 sets of tires, numerous chains, a few cassettes (waited to long on the chains), a couple cables, etc, etc, I have the money to buy a new bike for the transam, and gee – Tank has 30,000 mile on her, but she still hangs with the carbon bikes on my Saturday AM rides, so who cares. Elise’s most extensive tour was a six-week, 3000-mile journey from Savannah, Georgia to Los Angeles, Calfornia. The elements are high-quality and the bicycle was clearly designed for long distances; the lengthened chainstays with extra spokes, room for fenders (not included), and even three water bottle mounts all show that this bike was designed with the long-distance rider’s needs in mind. We welcome bicyclists of all skill levels including those who don't yet own a bike. I have outfitted it with full coverage SKS fenders and with them I could ride a 700 x32 tire but prefer 700 x 28’s in the city. Ride the heck out of it. When I showed up to a six-week group ride across America with my Randonee, people questioned its ability to make it across the country without mechanical issues. I used my spring 20% off coupon to buy the bike, at that price it is a very good value compared to equivalent bikes (Fuji Touring, Jamis Auroa, Bianchi Volpe). Other than that, the bicycle rode extremely cleanly – the brakes worked perfectly, it took turns easily, it was comfortable, and it made the road feel smooth. I had a Novara Strada bike before this and it was just too much a race bike. Also note that the new models are equipped with linear pull rather than cantilever brakes, in case that’s important to you. First it is not a 2007 it is 2010. This bike will carry you anywhere with ease. Yes it’s heavier than my Mondonico Racing bike, but smoother and takes panniers. Two wheels, or three, sometimes one, but never more than twenty. Yeah, I really like that they kept the branding minimal. I used one of the originals as the replacement while I waited for the new tire to arrive. $351.00 REIi dividends. As a result, you don’t necessarily need to be a bicycle expert to enjoy a tour with the Randonee – you probably won’t need to worry about fixing it, so you can simply enjoy the smooth ride it provides. Novara should be more of a recognizable name in the bicycle touring realm. Specialized alley, but that is a road bike. The Tiagra/Deore drivetrain shifts reliably but seems a little noisy at times. The bike is a bit heavy, I have a 59cm frame and it weighs around 28-29lbs including the stock rack but without any other accessories. If your size bicycle is not in stock, R.E.I.
